There are many products available for natural pain relief, but many come with a price and unpleasant side effects. When most people think of the phrase “side effects,” they think of the distasteful or harmful ones. But, surprisingly enough, an exciting and positive side effect of Kava happens to be pain relief, especially effective for sufferers of back pain. This is in part due to the muscle relaxing properties of this splendid plant as well as its natural pain relieving properties built into the plant naturally.
In Hawaii, teething, feverish children are given Kava Root (pre-chewed by their mothers), twice a day to calm and soothe them in their state of pain and discomfort. All across the South Pacific, kava is used as a calmative and as a pain reliever for both children and adults. It is also used as a poison antidote and as a treatment for conditions such as bronchitis, as well as anxiety, tension and restlessness.
It is widely used throughout the Pacific Islands as an analgesic, and also as an effective treatment for severe bites and stings from insects and poisonous fish. Homeopathically, kava has been and is used to treat such conditions as chronic back aches and to soothe states of excitation and exhaustion. The muscle relaxation and analgesic properties, as well as local anesthetic uses and anti-anxiety and sleep inducement properties, have all been pharmacologically demonstrated in kava.
One of the benefits of working with kava is that it offers helpful, natural healing and comforting qualities that otherwise could only be found in expensive prescription medication. There are many personal anecdotes of kava consumers who have found great relief from using kava to make themselves more comfortable, both during the day, and at night when they are trying to sleep. Everyone knows that a better night’s rest equals better health during the day, and better health during the day may lead to decreased pain in the body.
Although we are severely limited in what we’re able to explicitly state about the pain relieving properties of Kava Kava, it doesn’t take much looking on the internet to find countless personal stories of how Kava has helped improve the quality of life for so many, as it has safely for thousands of years in Oceania. Although Kava is becoming a threat to major pharmaceutical companies, partly because it’s a powerful and effective natural remedy for pain, it is now protected by the FDA. This is important when seeking out something to assist with pain, especially when one is seeking something that is all-natural, safe, and effective.

really helpful. i hope i can see if its all true when i find the money to buy some kava.
I have been making a bedtime tea from scullcap (2parts), chamomille (2parts), lavender (1part) and kava kava(3/4 parts). This is effective, especially after steeping for 3+ hours. This recipe makes four average cups. Does this sound like a “safe” level for the kava? It is almost always helpful in ensuring a consistent quality of sleep.
Ruth,
As is our mantra here; we’re not doctors and could never dispense advice on what “safe” levels of any herbal supplement are, especially because they’re not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any ailment. That being said, I know of people who have taken similar amounts of the product you have, and haven’t heard about any negative effects. In fact, I’ve been personally taking Kava for over 10 years, and I typically take about 3 tablespoons of Kava Powder per Kava drink, twice a day for pain. That’s way over the recommended dosage, but my liver tests always come up normal. Problems with Kava Kava typically seem to come in when it’s mixed with alcohol, especially over a prolonged period of time.
I’m also going to try your recipe above; it’s looks quite intriguing! Thanks for sharing!

I discovered Kava’s potent pain-killing properties by accident, and I have to tell you about it. For the past 2 weeks my left foot’d been in excruciating pain, diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. (You got to figure, all my body weight going down on that foot? Ouch! Super Ouch.) It wouldn’t go away and I’ve been taking tons of anti-inflammatories plus narcotics.
Then, the other day, I bought a bottle of Kava extract (alcohol-free). I didn’t buy it for my painful foot, I bought it to soothe the tension & high-blood pressure I have. So I took a stiff dose of it: about 8-10 mL’s of the extract. Soon after I lapsed into a very deep sleep. I awoke the next day & started moving around. To my surprise the horrible foot pain was totally gone – completely. It’s never returned, either. It has something to do with the Kava extract I took, I just don’t know what.
I am a believer, very new to kava, suffering from disc herniations and coccyx degeneration, there hasn’t been any relief from medical professionals. after extensive research, I found kava. I haven’t felt this pain free in over a year. My body still has a long road of healing, but with this new found relief, I am finally Finding a natural remedy to my chronic pain. Most definitely worth trying.
Jami,
I’m so glad to hear that kava has helped you to manage your chronic pain. We are working hard to spread the word about kava and all its benefits.

I’m excited to find out about this. Kratom is becoming illegal in the state where I live in just 2 weeks, and many people were using it for arthritis pain relief as the doctors really don’t give us anything but ibuprofen (and no sympathy at all). I knew there had to be a solution out there somewhere. I will definitely be trying this and recommending to arthritic friends.
Goth chiq,
For people who are experiencing arthritic pain, kava is a terrific option. Unlike OTC painkillers like ibuprofen, kava can help with anxiety and sleeplessness which often accompany chronic pain. I’m glad to hear that you will be recommending it and feel free to email us if you need any help selecting a product.

I am familiar with kava but have never taken it ,I’m researching it. I suffer from chronic pain from a botched spinal tap and blood patch, chronic migraine headaches since a child, I am 43 now. I also have had fibromialgia for 20 years! I had only been on Kratom for six months, because I was tired of the narcotics also, now that they banning kratom, I’m looking for other alternatives . What’s upsetting me is so many people are abusing natural remedies that should be used for pain or anxiety to help others. so many people are abusing these things to get high, that people like us are suffering because of it. which is so not fair. I live in Ohio and they just made marijuana legal which is good news to a lot of people. But not to me because I’ve never smoked marijuana and I don’t intend to. My only reluctance to try Kava, it’s because I’ve heard it causes severe liver damage, that’s my only apprehension about it. I respect and understand you all can only say so much regarding these issues. But any feedback would be great thank you.
Kathryn,
Thanks for reaching out to us. I share your disappointment regarding the new restrictions which will be imposed on the kratom market, and you are correct to point out that kava and kratom are desirable alternative for people who wish to avoid prescription medication.
Fortunately kava appears to be safe for the foreseeable future. The concerns that have been raised about kava and liver damager have received a lot of attention over the last 10-15 years, and have let to extensive research on the safety of kava from groups like the World Health Organization. Their findings indicate that kava is exceedingly safe for human consumption so long as it is unadulterated and free from leaves and stems. It has been speculated that impure kava products used in past studies were responsible for negative health effects experienced by participants.
The good news is that there is now substantial oversight of the kava industry and facilities manufacturing kava products are required to conform to rigorous health and safety standards. You can rest assured that any products that you purchase from us will be 100% safe.

Wow! Thank you so much for responding and explaining everything! I feel much better and will place an order with you soon! Thanks again!
Kathryn
Hello again, sorry to bother you again, but I have one more question I was browsing to see what to order, this will be my first time trying kava, I wanted to know what the difference was between the kava root capsules and the 30% Kavalactone capsules?
Kathryn,
The kava root only capsules contain just what you’d think; Our powdered kava root inside a vegetable cellulose capsule. The 30% kavalactone capsules contain kavalactone extract, which means that these are a bit more concentrated and more potent.

I suffer from chronic back pain. I regularly take pain medication to sleep at night. This is the first time I have heard of kava and I’m wondering where the start. I would really rather take something natural than over the counter medications. Can you tell me which kava product you would recommend trying. Also if I were to try this product at that point do you stop taking pain medications and stop consuming alcohol in any form?
Hi Mark,
Word is getting out that Kava, for thousands of years, has been providing pain relief throughout Oceania and in Europe. Many have heard about the anti-anxiety and anti-stress aspects of Kava, but equally as integral to Kava is it’s amazing ability to help alleviate the discomfort of some types of pain, especially pain that’s centered in the back or lower back.
Mind you, Kava is not a drug; it’s a natural herbal product, so we suggest consulting with a doctor for any program you plan to get on that involves Kava. This product is not intended to diagnose, prevent, or cure any disease. But, from countless generations of Kava Lovers to close to 20 years of customers, we have stories of Kava’s amazing ability to help with pain that could fill an encyclopedia. And, it’s not just back pain that people are talking about. People seem to feel that Kava is helpful for a number of different types of pain. Our recommendation would be Kava Tincture Plus, Kavalactone Paste, or Kavalactone 30% Capsules.

I have bilateral mastoiditis which is the mastoid bones in both my ears are infected. It’s extremely painful and will require up to six months of antibiotic pills to cure. I’m also a recovering alcoholic so I’m always concerned about addictive properties of things I take. My sponsor who is also a life long friend recently tried kava. I agreed because of his recommendation. It works. It’s a good substitute for opiates. Try it yourself and see. I’d recommend getting some good quality instant kava from Hawaii over the vitamin store pills.
This is very intriguing as I have tried to study a lot about herbs and what they can do naturally for us. I have found a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon 4 the use of valerian root extract and did not realize that you can overdose on that. Is kava the same? I Wonder how test results come out 4 people who have to have blood results drawn. Is the kava plant parts poisonous I have heard that using other portions of the plant can be dangerous can you please verify what portions of the plant is being used and how the making of the extract is handled? Thank you
Hi there,
Thank you for your interest in our products and practices. We utilize both types of root that the plant offers. All of our products are manufactured in a GMP Facility in compliance with all FDA standards. We also provide serving size and dosage amounts with our products. I hope this helps. Have a great day.
